Megan Fox and Commentary on Corsets

From Jessica Wakeman at

How do we feel about corsets? Burlesque performers, like our girl Dita Von Teese, can wear a corset and look damn hot doing it. But on the other end of the spectrum, there’s those frightening women who mush their organs together inside tight corsets, gunning for a six-inch waist. Chicks like that have got some serious ish.

Somewhere in the middle is Megan Fox in “Jonah Hex,” which looks likes it’s set in the Wild West and calls for her to wear an old-timey corset and bustle. Fox recently spoke with InStyle magazine about how the “Jonah Hex” wardrobe department snapped her into corsets to get her waist down to 18 inches, which “would leave these deep grooves, these deep indents from the boning in the corsets, for the whole next day.” Ew, right?

Was it really so necessary for Megan Fox’s costume to look authentic for her role that they put her in something that left “deep grooves” in her skin? Shapewear, like Spanx, is one thing. But whittling down an already skinny actress’s waist to 18 inches for a movie? What’s the point?
